    EGLT Winter Hike

Event: Winter outing to Eastfield Farm property

    Date: 30 January 2016

    Time: 8:45 am

    Duration: 2 ½ hours

Meeting place: East Granby Senior/Community Center

Itinerary: 8:45 Carpool to site; 9:00 hike to pond, continue thru woodland, over frozen marsh and vernal pools; 11:00 end of hike; return to Center by 11:15.

    Leaders: Ian Clark, Cathy Delasco

In this natural area we will probably find heron nests, animal tracks, a beaver lodge and signs of beaver activity.  The route is off trail.  Expect to step over logs, duck under branches and travel through some brushy areas.  It will be winter in the woods, so dress in adjustable layers to stay warm and dry, bring water to drink, and be prepared for slippery conditions.  If more than 8 inches of snow cover, bring snowshoes or X-C skis and we'll take turns breaking trail.

If the marsh ice is too thin to walk on we will hike an alternative site.  In case of rain or unsafe driving conditions the outing will be canceled.
